Marvel’s Avengers won’t be supported after September-

Publisher Square Enix was openly disappointed by the performance of Marvel’s Avengers, which released in the summer of 2020 to middling reviews. Two-and-a-half years later, the live service superhero game has seen its last content update, and it will stop being actively supported before the year’s out.

Avengers will get its last balancing update in March, according to a blog post from developer Crystal Dynamics (not currently loading due to high traffic). When Update 2.8 is pushed out on March 31, the studio will also close up the game’s cosmetics marketplace and convert players’ remaining credits into in-game resources.

Those premium cosmetics won’t become unobtainable, however, because Crystal Dynamics says it’s going to give every player all of them: “Every single O…

Stray Gods will get a whole story DLC focused on Anthony Rapp’s Orpheus-

Last year’s Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical is getting story-focused DLC in the form of Stray Gods: Orpheus, which will star the titular mythical bard rather than base game protagonist Grace. Coming back to earth for a new story, Orpheus will once again be played by Anthony Rapp, the American actor and singer best known for his performance in the original run of the musical Rent, the film version of the same show, and most recently (and to most of you, my fellow nerds) in Star Trek: Discovery.

Stray Gods: Orpheus will focus on the “finished” story of Orpheus after the original game, as Hermes returns him to the world of the living and is able to make choices free of the influence of the Fates. It’ll have six new original songs where, much like in the original, your story choic…

Temtem drops monetization as developer confirms that no new content is coming after the next update-

A week after sparking a sometimes acrimonious debate over whether or not its game is really an MMO, Temtem developer Crema has announced that no new islands, Tems, or passes will be released for the game following the upcoming 1.7 update, and that all microtransactions in the game are being removed.

Temtem was brought to life by a 2018 Kickstarter campaign that raised nearly $574,000, far beyond its initial $70,000 goal. Crema described it in that campaign as a “massively multiplayer creature collecting adventure,” although it clarified in an FAQ that its vision for the game “is a lot smaller” that conventional MMOs. Even so, the use of the term set expectations among some players for its long-term future—expectations that many of them feel haven’t been met.

That was t…

Starfield is nominated for the Most Innovative Gameplay award in the 2023 Steam Awards-

The 2023 Steam Award nominations are out, meaning it’s time to cast your ballots for your favorite games across categories ranging from Game of the Year to Best Game You Suck At.

Unlike most other awards programs, the Steam Awards limits nominees to a maximum of two categories, which presumably explains why Baldur’s Gate 3, which has been a behemoth at awards shows throughout 2023,  isn’t set to run the table (again). Other two-category nominees include EA Sports FC24, Lethal Company, Hogwarts Legacy, and Resident Evil 4, while Starfield, which was shut out at The Game Awards, is getting a little recognition too: It’s in the running for Most Innovative Gameplay.

The Starfield nomination is a little unexpected because it’s very much a Bethesda RPG, something the studio h…

Solid Snake says he’s not worried about AI stealing work from voice actors- ‘it’ll always be soulless’-

Longtime Solid Snake voice actor David Hayter is a man of many talents, and has written and acted across films, games and TV since the early ’90s. He’s a guy who’s been around these industries a while, certainly knows what goes into making the sausage, and he’s not impressed with AI one bit.

“Anybody who steals your voice should be locked up for forever, but I also have a different perspective on it,” Hayter told Eurogamer in a new interview. He goes on to describe coming up with an idea for a movie and asking ChatGPT, just for funsies, to knock up a script to see what came out: “the worst, most clichéd, soulless, dumbest collection of words I’ve ever seen”.

Oh but Hayter’s just getting warmed-up. When it comes to voice AI, “the technology to copy our voi…
